Largest Latino Museum in the U.S. Opens in Texas

Written on the 16th of April in the year 2007

Last Friday April 13th an awesome thing happened for all Latinos in this country. In San Antonio, Texas the Almeda opened up. It’s a Latino museum that’s best explained by the museum itself:

The Museo Alameda will ensure that the story of the Latino experience in America is told, understood and advanced in partnership with our Nation’s Museum… The Museo Alameda will explore the Latino experience in America through multiple art forms intended to foster contemplation, deliberation, and understanding of America’s cultural fabric.

This is a fantastic step forward. Their slogn is “Alameda: An American Story” which is perfect. One of the biggest steps forward will be when America recognizes us as partakers of the American experience. The white experience in America is very different than the Latino experience in America. I want to see a day where there is no difference. I feel that putting our experiences in a museum of this nature will go a long way in legitimizing the Latino experience. I’m planning a trip right now to el museo almeda, anyone wanna come with?
