McDonalds and others doing more Latino Marketing

Written on the 2nd of April in the year 2007

I’ve noticed lately more commercials appealing to the Hispanic market. They’re not like the ones I grew up watching on Telemundo or Univision that are on Spanish-speaking channels, these are Latino advertisements that are on mainstream English language channels. So they end up being a blend of the English language in culturally Latino situations. It’s absolutely necessary because they are going after the same demographic that I belong to and the one that I am going after - the ever growing, young Latino population that is living in the United States.

In particular there is one McDonald’s ad that sticks out. It’s for that new snack wrap that doesn’t seem like much of great product to me but it’s whatever. So the ad has a Hispanic family with people of all ages on screen. The memorable part is that they reference reggaeton in the commercial. McDonald’s must actually be doing their homework and figuring out what the demographic is doing to have referenced a musical genre from Latin America.

There’s many more companies I have seen on television that are marketing to the Latinos in the U.S. I’m all for it as it brings a credibility to our minority group. We are beginning to be taken seriously by major players in business. We are the future, they even teach how to market to us in college. I love it, I would completely support these companies if I had enough disposable income to spend on stuff. Right now I’m still trying to save up to buy books for class. Any of you have an opinion on this Latino marketing?
